When it comes to Solar Inverters, there are a lot to choose from. There are an overwhelming amount of options, and failure to choose the right kind for your needs can lead to inefficient usage of Solar Power from your Solar Panel setup. But don’t worry, this article aims to answer most of the critical questions one would have when choosing a Solar Inverter.
The types of Solar Inverters available:
There are mainly three types of Solar Inverters available in the market –
Based on your installation scenario and power consumption you can choose the one that fits your needs. We wrote an entire article dedicated to understanding the above-mentioned types of Inverters. Click here to learn more.

Calculating Your Power Consumption
Before deciding on a particular type of Solar Inverter, it is helpful to calculate your approximate power consumption. According to research, a typical 2BHK House consumes 200 to 250 units of electricity monthly. That means a Solar Power System generating an equivalent of 1.5kW to 2kW should be sufficient. But we know, that’s not for everybody. To make this calculation more accurate, we have listed a few appliances and their average power consumption:
- Refrigerator – 200W
- Light Bulbs – 5W to 15W
- Ceiling Fans – 25W to 80W
- Mixer Grinder – 500W
- Iron Box – 1000W
- Television – 80W to 100W
- Washing Machine – 300W
- Geyser – 2000W to 5000W
- Water Purifier – 25W
- Laptops – 65W
(The above list is only an estimation and actual ratings may wary.)
Once you have calculated the average power consumption, you can now easily choose the right Inverter based on your needs.
Solar Inverter Battery – Do you need one?
Solar panels generate enough energy to often power both residential and commercial infrastructures. But as Solar Energy isn’t available throughout the day, installing an Inverter Battery can be very convenient, as it can provide uninterrupted power even during the night.
Choosing the right type of Solar Inverter Battery isn’t as complicated as it sounds. There are quite a few options to choose from, but once you know what you are looking for and what capacity is most suitable for your needs, it becomes straightforward.
Here are a few types of Batteries you should know about:
- Inverter Batteries – These types of batteries are one of the main components of a Home Power Back-up System. They typically come in Flat and Tubular technologies. They are efficient and need little maintenance.
- Solar Inverter Batteries – These are similar to typical Inverter Batteries, but the main difference is their charging cycles, which are longer in comparison. They too are very efficient and need very little maintenance.
- Lithium Batteries – These types of batteries have greater energy densities and are very efficient. One of the major advantages of Lithium Batteries is that have very low self-discharging tendencies.
It’s also important to note that if you do decide to opt for a Solar Inverter Battery, choosing the Hybrid Inverter type is most suitable, as they are programmed to systematically store energy in the batteries when they are not in use. And in situations where there is no power supply from the grid or when Solar Panels are not generating enough electricity, the Solar Inverter automatically switches to Battery mode, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of power.
Choosing the right type of Solar Inverter can be a little challenging, and we hope from the information provided above, you can now make an informed choice for your energy needs. If you need any further information or assistance, feel free to contact us.
